On January 17, 2023, Mckingtorch Africa welcomed representatives from the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm Conventions, and the Basel Convention Coordinating Center for the Africa Region. Their visit followed the successful completion of a pilot project on reusable bags, conducted in partnership with Mckingtorch Africa and the UN Basel Convention headquarters in Switzerland.
The delegates traveled from Switzerland to our Accra office to witness the firsthand outcomes of the project. During the visit, the team expressed their satisfaction with the project’s impact, particularly in promoting sustainable alternatives to plastic waste. What they discovered was a project that not only met their expectations but also ignited excitement about the potential for waste-to-resource solutions in Africa.
The pilot project was supported by several partners, including the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Melcom Ghana, Marina Shopping Mall, MaxMart Family Shopping Center, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This initiative transformed discarded materials into functional, reusable products, creating both environmental value and economic opportunity.
Their visit was more than a courtesy call; it affirmed the growing global interest in Mckingtorch Africa’s innovative waste-to-resource initiatives and their potential to scale across regions.
Join us in reshaping the future of waste. Whether you’re a policymaker, an organization, or a citizen passionate about sustainability, we invite you to collaborate, support, or simply spread the word. Together, we can turn waste into opportunity and ideas into impactful solutions.
